The guy practically raped it to become the R candidate...

They remember that...

They didn't seem all that bothered by it last time.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I thought you knew American law.

You can't prosecute someone ex post facto by making new laws...

I don’t know how things work in Michigan, but here we call those things ‘jokes’.

I know topical American law. That is, I research what’s under discussion on the Forum so I don’t make a boneheaded mistake like assuming that ‘impeach’ means ‘remove from office’, that a conviction automatically disqualified Trump from seeking office in the future. Blunders like that would be REALLY humiliating.

He would not get enough votes as an R, and he would like H Ross, suck up enough otherwise R voters to prevent the R's from winning.

BUT.  If he can't run (because he got impeached) the R's can find a strong R candidate who would have a good chance at winning.

So - is it really worth it?
Odds are, an strong Republican candidate (who isn't Trump) would, if nothing else, be mentally stable. It'd probably be easier to act against him. And, the funny thing about the "R Candidate who would have a good chance at winning" thing? Every election since I was born, a Republican has won the popular vote exactly once. And I should also point out that the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is a thing. At the moment, it has  been signed into law by sixteen states with 196 electoral votes between them, with another five states with a total of 77 electoral votes pending. If Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, and Virginia all join it before 2024, it comes into law, and, barring a change that actually makes them palatable to more than rich white men and their useful idiots, the Republican Party's chances at the Presidency, they dead.

And supposing that Trump runs as an independent in 2024, if he loses, do you really think he'll be acting any different than he is now? Do you really think he won't try and have his supporters storm the Capitol ?

If Pee Wee Herman ordered his followers to storm the White House - not much would happen.

However - If Pee Wee Herman was the sitting president - more people might pay attention.....

Ya think?

Edit to add -

And I am not comparing President Trump ro Pee Wee Herman. I kind of like Pee Wee.

And Pee Wee Herman doesn't have a following of dangerously insane individuals primed for violence and inoculated from objective reality.

After all the shit with him getting caught hammering his nail in the adult theater - his first public appearance on TV (some awards show) as Pee Wee - he mugged for the camera - waited for the applause to die down and quipped "Hey - heard any good jokes?"...

Standing O....

Whatta guy....

Yeah, because they want jokes from Pee Wee Herman, not political power.
