[Serious] Ask an American expat
#1
Ask an American expat
A little over 2 months ago, my wife and I left the USA to find a new home in Mexico. A month later, we signed a lease on a modest 3 bedroom / 1 bath apartment in a very walkable neighborhood in a non-touristy part of Puerto Vallarta. Our plan is to spend half of our time in the US and half here, with the goal of finding a location to buy a place to retire to within a few years.

What is the absolutely, positively WORST thing about where you live?

I wish you and Kitty the best. I didn't enjoy my 1.5 years outside the US.

How much of the language have the two of you learned? Can you get along with just english?

Have you had an encounter with the medical system yet?

What is the ganja situation?

My wife knows more Espanol than I, I know enough to not starve, we're both learning.

We are traveling back and forth to the US for a lot of our care, she has a condition that requires very expensive injections 4x / year that are not available here. I have used the system here out of pocket for acute needs and it was adequate and relatively inexpensive.

The weed is awful and easy to obtain. I'm not partaking as I don't wish to experience the local judicial system. Consider it an extended tolerance break.

I have ordered both from US and MX Amazon. From the US, the delivery is expensive with import duty but pretty quick, less than a week. From Amazon MX, without Prime, shipping on products shipped from in country is a couple of days or less.

Unlike in the US, the delivery guy will actually text you if you are not home and will return later when you are rather than leave your package to be stolen. I can't even get the driver to ring my damn doorbell when I'm home in the US
