I took and failed a polygraph several years ago when applying for a job. The main thing that tripped me up is when they asked if I had ever had sex with a minor when I was an adult. That was a tough one because there was a guy I dated off and on through high school and after who is two years younger than I am. So there was a point when I was no longer a minor and he still was. MEH - I didn't lie about it but I did hesitate and wasn't sure how to answer.

I think polygraphy would be much more effective if you were instructed to lie on 50% of the calibration questions. When the machine detected a lie, it would deliver a moderate electrical shock, which would motivate you to tell the truth on the actual questions.

That’s kinda a depressing thing about those sort of questions: it’s shockingly broad. I can remember reading Rationalwiki and hearing them talking about a poll by NCMEC that claimed, well, I’ll just let the text speak for itself:

A highschooler asking a fellow high schooler if she is a virgin would be a case of this, if the person did not want to admit they were/were not a virgin. This criterion is so broad and encompasses so much that it even could include an 18 year old (adult) asking his friend, a 17 year old (minor) who could be as little as a day younger than him, if he had gotten lucky on his date the previous night.

Fortunately, it looks like, according to Section 22.011(e) of the Texas penal code, you’re in the clear. At least, assuming that you were based out of Texas then, and that this law was actually in the penal code at the time, which I’m unsure of.
