Are lockdowns justified?
RE: Are lockdowns justified?
Another example that persuasively argues the point that you object to. If lockdowns don't work, if the thing that lockdowns seek to prevent is a non issue or can't be helped, why would a bunch of people going to the theater lead to a spike?

Shouldn't they already be sick on account of breathing and not getting enough d? Why should theaters or any other gathering be any more dangerous than any other thing? At this point I'm not certain that you could string together a coherent thought on the matter even if you did have access to solid facts. That happened to us, here, too.....

-half a million dead.

All of this nonsense is pointless anyway. You don't actually believe any of this, and you're not committed to any of it, you just think that we should die for the dow and keep our economy open. We had a great chance to keep our economy open right at the beginning, and we have that same chance, though getting tougher every day..literally every day. All we have to do is stop pretending that this is a conspiracy to hurt your preciouses and actually deal with the pandemic.

That was -always- the way to keep the economy open, and still is. There is no economy for dead people. There is no other way. Half a million consumers and laborers just blipping out ...is...not...good....for...economy. You get that much, right? That people have to be alive to make shit and buy shit?

Boru

I don't think that is true. After the lockdown has been removed in Texas, there hasn't been a spike in new cases.

And even if that were true, I don't think that would strongly suggest lockdowns work. People might get too excited and, for example, go to cinema more often than if there hasn't been a lockdown in the first place.

Really?  I hear on the radio about about the increasing cases in the surrounding counties since spring break and everything opening back up right before that.  I live in North Texas.

Here's the best way to avoid catching COVID - stay away from sick people. Sick people may not show symptoms and not even know they have it. So how do you know who to stay away from...you don't...expect that anyone you come in contact with could have it.

How can you protect yourself when you have to be around others? Filter what you are breathing in and out...with a mask. Wash you hands, don't get too close.

Pretty simple stuff. Why do you think kids weren't allowed (before the vaccine) to go to school if they had even a mild case of chicken pox? It's so they didn't spread it to those who weren't immune.

It's clear you have no basic understanding of how illness spreads.

At the start of every school year (pre-COVID) kids got sick and brought sickness home with them. Why? Because they were all crammed into the same building for 7-8 hours a day after being free range for three months. All the germs had new people to infect.

A scientifically advanced nation with 4% of the world's population produced 20% of the pandemic deaths because of a political environment that denounces science and values personal liberties, often trivial ones, over the lives of others.  In such an environment, if the virus was a different type of enemy, a foreign entity, that could be defeated with soldiers, bullets and bombs, people would completely support the war effort.  In an equal but alternate political environment, where nurses, doctors, and researchers are seen as soldiers in a war against the virus, refusing to follow pandemic protocol would be the same as kneeling for the national anthem, dodging the draft, or being Hanoi Jane.

OP is obviously no scientist.  He should stop pretending to use science to promote political misinformation.  Respect the troops.

One similarity between that alternate universe and our own, is the presence of the pro-plague political wing. A literal death cult and fifth column.

I don't know now. My echo-chamber is full of stories such as this one: https://fee.org/articles/texas-hits-reco...trictions/
The raw data, by the government, is available here: https://tabexternal.dshs.texas.gov/t/THD...y&:embed=y
Either way, cases have been falling in Texas since March the 2nd, when the lockdown and mask mandate was lifted. Perhaps not as dramatically as that article by Foundation for Economic Education would lead you to believe, but they are definitely not increasing.

Okay - I live here and hear these things in real time.  How many new cases and how many new deaths.

The published reports are behind...they are always behind with counts.  What I hear are what local hospital are reporting to local media regarding the previous day.

Overall cases are down some because people are getting vaccinated and others have already had COVID.  That doesn't mean that there hasn't been an increase since the mask mandate was lifted.  And, by the way, most businesses in my experience are still requiring masks.  That there isn't a mandate doesn't mean everyone caught The Stupid from Gov. Abbott.
