Proposition about a new subforum for children

RE: Proposition about a new subforum for children
Not really - just need to get all the ideas gathered and figure out which the framework allows for and which it doesn't. We'll decide from there.

I think parental response could be explosive. You can't remove yourself from your responsibility... it's ok for you to get torn down but you're not gonna like your kids getting that. You'd have to keep it to kids from the same indoctrination performing for the parents. To me it's sick & I wouldn't wanna see it. My 2c.

It's a children's thread, let them banter back and forth with equals. I would really question why any adult wants to muse on about pokeman and whether or not SpongeBob is going to get promoted at the Krusty Krab!

If you're gonna do it: Kids Only Posting. Adults can View. MODs/Admins can regulate accordingly.

I concur, Cinjin and thesummerqueen.

Then perhaps we could apply the similar concept of no-preach rules to child-only forums - Like, no-indoctrinate rule - to remove and restrict any violators to protect the kids? Just comforting thought.

A great idea in principle,AS LONG AS the forum and chat are closely monitored by an adult and have zero tolerance of bullying.

I would not allow a PM facility ,for the same reason and for fear of predators..

Does that make sense or am I being paranoid?

That makes sense - no one wants to have their kid being indoctrinated, bullied and death threats by predators online.

I think we should disable the information-sparing option like Facebook, email, location and anything that may led any further troubles that Administrators can't control.

Let them speak with the "adults." Don't isolate them from the rest of our profanity. Let them see what it means to be on...the internet.

Wow! I'm glad you are all at least considering the concept. I love the ideas coming out regarding some modicum of "protection for the kids" and do think that perhaps parental referral being required is a great idea. I would support restricted adult access (only allowing mods and admin) but as it goes these kids ARE on the Internet and Facebook in particular is not that kind.

Anyway...I have no idea how this forum is structured so I am not much help there Undecided I just thought that should our "little ones" be able to have convos with others of a similar mindset / world view/ belief (non) system..(I seriously don't know what to call atheism) it might be of some help in a world going batshit crazy on religious doctrine. Besides..what parent does not check what their kid is up to on the Internet??

The last thing I would to see is this forum's standards sink to the level of Twitter and Facebook. That other places have low/non existent standards is tu quoque.

I do NOT support the idea of children interacting directly with adults in this environment.

Agreed.

This site serves an existing role quite well. There are children oriented sites that can do much better out there. While I am flattered you (addressed to the supporters of this idea) think AtheistForums.org can contain a forum-within-a-forum oriented purely to children, I think we have difficulty enough in expanding our functionality as it is. An expansion would be out of scope.

Furthermore, the degree of oversight "offered" in this thread would entail additional overhead on my and other moderators part, with all of the responsibility and blame. When it comes to actions and quality thereof, "Less is more".

A valid point.
