I know what I said. You take everything I say out of context. You don't get to put thoughts in my head that are not there.

Now if you want to argue that I didn't chose my words wisely, to make it clear enough, that would be a better argument.

My point was that long term, every spill hurts and has a collective effect on our planet. So yes, this current spill reminds me of the Exxon spill because of the attention both got. Just like hearing about a local shooting where only 1 person dies, vs a mass shooting. Sometimes a single shooting gets lots of attention. Single shootings or mass shootings are still gun violence. A spill is a spill regardless of amount, and both add up over time. 

The more our species exploits the planet and the bigger we get as a population and the more we pollute, the damage adds up over time. I hate smokers whom throw their butts on the ground thinking one butt isn't going to hurt the environment. So to me big or small, it all still adds up over time.

Big oil loves bullying the world? Who would have thought? Unfortunately nothing new. Big tobacco did that too. 

It is sad that humans have had solar energy and electric car technology as early as the 1920s and we would not be in this climate mess today if we had worked on getting to that back then. 

Humans, while we can be quite creative in inventing things to improve quality of life, at the same time, put profit over pragmatism and are far too often short term thinkers when it comes to profit. Sometimes what we invent or use as humans is not good for us.

Unfortunately, globally, our species will always be tribal, and for most, our species cannot grasp the fact that our planet(globe) is all inner connected. America's problems are not just local. Ultimately our species needs to face we are the current ultimate invasive species. Until humans face the fact we are not an apex, but merely one species among all life, we will continue to focus on our own tribalism. 

The issue isn't the price of Salmon, or gas for that matter. The issue is humans are increasingly becoming a victim of our own success. 

I especially hate pro birthers. Just like guns, I never get a good answer as to how much would be enough. 50 billion guns, 50 billion humans. Just like any glass, it can only hold so much liquid before it overflows. 

So to answer your Salmon question, we are, as humans, responsible for the conditions we create.

Wow, and you think gun violence is different?

More oil, more opportunity for spills. More guns, more opportunity for violence. 

Maybe humans need less oil and less guns? 

But to be somewhat fair to you, I think our species needs to stop stupidly think we can speed up the pace of consumption and stupidly think we can indefinitely explode our species population. 

PACE is the problem. Humans are going too fast for our planet to absorb the things we do. 

There is a reason there are building codes for businesses, say like bars, where the fire martials denote to the business owner the capacity level of such businesses. Laws are not, or should I argue, should not denote oppressing anyone. 

I don't see smoking being banned worldwide ever. I also do not see oil being outlawed, because it is also used to make products not having to do with burning. But humans should not ignore that the fact the bigger we get, as a population, the more we fight over resources, and the planet doesn't give a shit about our species.

OLB was saying, now that Manhattan Beach has been returned to its rightful owners, they might be liable for the costs of cleaning up the Huntington Beach oil spill. He was wrong, but he never mentioned guns. If you want to rant about guns, there are plenty of threads where you can do that, without trying to derail this one.

Overall bad use of logic regardless of topic.

Just now as you read this, and keep in mind you , you, not me, linked a link about the history of oil spills. That same ignorance of the public worrying  more about short term gas prices, ignores the long term damage burning fossil fuels is doing to our planet. In the same way that "out of my cold dead hands" is ignoring that more guns do not make society safer. 

Oil and guns are no different than the bad marketing of tobacco.
