I was never much for D&D, but I played a good bit of 'Traveller' as a teen. Nothing against either dungeons or dragons, just a case of being more interested in science fiction than in fantasy.

I can understand why you don't get it - you're not really part of that marketing demographic. Role playing games are intended for creative people with fertile imaginations.
