Dave Chappelle has been disinvited from a bunch of places since his special, so it's a bit more than mean tweets. Dave is not going gently into that good night, but his fight to try and save comedy looks like a losing battle long term, and eventually Netflix and others are not going to consider it to be worth all of the backlash to put on controversial specials like Dave's anymore. And I'm sure if you had it your way, Chappelle would be charged with committing hate crimes against the trans community.

Of course people can disinvite him if they want. What kind of point is that? People can disinvite you from something for being an atheist or for having long hair. Does that mean others shouldn't speak up on your behalf and defend you from the disinviters because "people are allowed to disinvite others"?

Well, I saw a bit of that Dave Chappell schtick. Then he started in on LBGT people. I thought he was as funny as cancer. So I watched something else. I do not suggest for a minute that he needs to change his act. Imo freedom of speech must include the right to offend. If he offends enough people, they will simply not watch him or go to his live shows.
In 1991 I saw Eddy Murphy's stand up, on tape. It was called "RAW" . He came across as a misogynistic pig. So I turned him off. Still don't like his slick, facile persona. So I don't watch any of his movies. He has the right to be as offensive/plain obnoxious as he likes. I have the right not to watch him.
My favourite American stand up comics; The late great George Carlin and Lewis Black. Generally, I far prefer Aussie or British humour.
