One major difference between the Roe v. Wade decision and today:  Now the Internet exists.  Women in need of abortion services can meet benefactors online, and support from all over the world can be mobilized very quickly.  I predict an upsurge in grassroots activity that will make abortions (particularly medical ones) more accessible.

Never, ever underestimate the power of millions of pissed-off humans.

I hope you are correct.  My fear is that this is not nearly the end.  I live in Texas, and there is already significant chatter here about how long the arms of the law can extend for anyone helping a Texan seek an abortion, whether than person is someone in-state assisting someone going outside, or someone outside bringing someone to their state.  It's all pretty blatantly unconstitutional, I would think, but that won't stop all the insanity from unfolding.  My guess is that there will be vigilante-law lawsuits in about the first nanosecond when someone drives a patient out of state.  Of course, the ultimate resting place for such a lawsuit could be the same fucking clueless court who caused this mess.

Dick's Sporting Goods has stepped up and announced they will give up to $4,000.00 to any employee, spouse, or dependent as well as one support person for travel and expenses to obtain an abortion in another state if the state they are in doesn't allow the procedure.

Good on ya! Can't wait to see what other companies follow suit.

I heard the same about Amazon(?). It's getting ugly in this country. I just can't understand the mentality that goes to this extent.

Yup.

I was reading all the comments about the announcement on Twitter.

"I'll never shop there again. Republicans are the most sport-minded of the two parties!"

Really? I've seen a lot of republicans. They'd get winded climbing a kerb!

In reality, Republicans have played themselves as Anti Abortion laws never worked before and they won't work now.

“No matter what men think, abortion is a fact of life. Women have always had them; they always have and they always will. Are they going to have good ones or bad ones? Will the good ones be reserved for the rich, while the poor women go to quacks?”

Abortions aren't going to stop happening. What's in jeopardy are safe abortions. This recreates the back alley need and there is always someone willing to benefit from someone else's suffering.

Like I said before, Anyone who thinks this is going to stop abortions and can find a copy with subtitles (unless, of course, you speak Romanian) needs to watch 4 Months, 3 weeks, and 2 days. It shows what happens when a nation outlaws abortion: Spoilers, it doesn't stop abortions. It just makes them all the more riskier, which doesn't actually dissuade women from trying to get them. And it doesn't even come close to painting a complete picture of the disastrous consequences. Like the orphanages.

Go back to the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Period; unwanted infants were simply smothered after Birth & Baptism. Adoption, with all its hardships & headaches, is not going to be an option for most.

Remember Rob Roy with its scene, "Root it out. ."

Rob Roy has the advantage of being more accessible (both in language and streaming access), but, then again, it’s set 309 years ago, and not 35, which might make it easier to think “that was then, this is now.” Also, while I haven’t seen it (don’t have HBO Max) my research is suggesting that this particular subplot might be easy to spin as pro-life.

There are lots of people who get tattoos who end up regretting it, but that does not give them the right to tell others they cant get a tattoo.

And, yet, the creeps bitch & wine about transgenders who undergo surgery, which, per a recent study, has a low regret rate.  We are, of course, free to make choices and live with the consequences, good or bad, of those choices.  Seems that the pro-choice position should be supported by conservatives.

Those asshole hypocrites love their own privacy, but have no problem wanting to spy on your plumbing and bedroom. Seriously, if these sickos had their way, they would actually do what female genital mutilation by African Muslims and African Christians do. If the GQPKLAN could literally publicly strip a female and force everyone to watch their "superstitious bullshit purity" "inspection" they would do it.

These sickos on the far right have no problem rightfully condemning the Taliban for treating females like chattel and property, are the same sickos who have given vigilante rights to citizens if they don't like someone else seeking an abortion. It is the very epitome of what Orwell warned about in Animal Farm and 1984. These assholes rightfully condemn the likes of Kim Jong Un, the "reeducation" done by China, and cry about how evil and oppressed those societies are. But yet they fucking behave like they are jealous of not having the ability to do the same. But they are certainly slowly chipping away at our Constitutional protections to make that a possible reality in their minds.
