AD is where most of the people landed when 'The Thinking Atheist' (TTA) forum closed down.

On a side note, did you ever know "The Everlasting God Stopper"? She was very active on a forum that was related to infidels.org and she knew David Mills, the author of The Atheist Universe which Dawkins mentions in his book. A coup occurred on that board 15 years ago and she got banned, as did several reincarnated socks.

I am not familiar with that user name.  I was on TTA for several years and quite active there.  I have checked out a few other forums but preferred TTA, and now prefer here.  When we had crazies trolling TTA, they often came here also.  There tended to be a working relationship between TTA and AF to stop some of the worst.  There was also overlap with some members posting on both.  AD was set up as a place for TTA members to go and stay together.  There is still overlap between that group and this.

I first started on Usenet 30 years ago, alt.atheism; I was a YEC Christian fundamentalist back in those days and was posting crap along the lines of the Omphalos hypothesis. Almost immediately I got the Last Thursdayism responses, which really caused me to think about things. I ended-up getting a private email from a U of Chicago faculty member (Jerry Coyne?) who basically told me to get lost, saying that he could not, per U Chicago policy, post publicly to Usenet. After that I ended-up at infidels.org before, eventually, finding my way here.

I started listening to podcasts on my Ipod years ago, at work, and found 'The Thinking Atheist' podcast.  From there I wandered over to the forum.  I have heard Seth Andrews speak a few times and met him and Aron Ra at some of the events.  Prior to that the only forum I was ever involved in was a domestic abuse forum back in the days of AOL and dial-up.

It wasn't a question for me, but I remember "The Everlasting God Stopper" from my time at RavingAtheists, not in person . That was about 17(?) or more years ago, not long before I left. That's a handle one doesn't forget. That forum went down awhile back.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

I remember the AOL dial-up, also! My very first modem was a 300-baud back in 1980 -- one could literally watch the characters write themselves across the monitor!

And, on sadder news, the Republicans picked-up another House seat; twenty left to call. They need six to take the House.

The GOP will take the House. Perhaps this will be a good thing, as a bill to codify Roe v. Wade will almost certainly be introduced, and so will begin the ding-dong pass & repeal for the next decade or so at least until the synthesis espoused in Roe will, once again, become the established paradigm.
