As I understand it it was not during an election YEAR.

Perhaps, not that 2005 not being an election year is material.
I didn't say it was

Obviously because you agree with the party who would benefit from the expansion. If the Republicans tried it, then it would be a power grab.

Of course politicians change opinions, it's called political convenience.

2016 was not an election year.  Lalala

1a. Schumer's opinion changed because of the passage of alleged voter suppression laws (despite no impact on turnout).

1b. Gillibrand's opinion changed when Republicans lowered the threshold for SCOTUS despite Reid previously lowering the threshold for regular federal judges (who just happen to get promoted to SCTOUS).

2. Politicians by nature change their opinion with the polling data.

No, because the point isn't more power it's restraining the current band of lunatics Trump put in the court. By contrast, the only reason Republicans would stack the court is a power grab because they know there is no other way they can push their more radical and unpopular policies through. If the Republicans were not the current group of cultist nutjobs they are now i would have more confidence in letting them try it. But as they currently are no way.

What specifically is meant by "anti democratic" and "anti american"?

They're both such specific words it's hard to imagine why they'd have to be argued.  I'm obviously not suggesting, for example, that they don't like stamps and do like bnbs on the french coast.....?

Anti democratic, and anti american. That's my issue with the gop. That's what makes them seem so absurd, to me, as an american political party.

1. Why he changed his mind has no barring on the fact he changed his mind.

2.I didn't even bring up Gillibrand.

3. Or they change it because they changed their mind like any other person changes their mind.

The point is obviously more power.

If you want to talk about pushing   "radical" policies, there were House Dems (Jayapal) suggesting Biden enact the BBB by executive fiat because  it couldn't pass Congress.

What makes them "lunatics"? The recent Dobbs decision didn't make abortion illegal, it just made it a state issue. Also, the MS abortion law was literally on par with France.

1. I never suggested otherwise.

2. Your link did.

3. Yes, "My opponents have political power and must be stopped." It's a fairly simple and common reason.
