Knowing a few parents whose children committed suicide, I cringed a little at what Boru wrote.  But I understood what he meant.

All the same, you know "shitty person that should have hung themselves" is a distortion of what was written and are using that handy perversion to feel comfortable, perched on moral high ground from which you wish perfection, knowing full well there is none to be had.

You misunderstand me. One of his daughters came out as bi last year. If that was the girl that cut herself, then the stress of growing up with a father who has constantly spoken out against LGBTQ rights must have been a nightmare. 

I have nothing but compassion for the girl and I hope she gets the help she needs.

Yeah, Boru's comment was a bit flippant on such a serious topic, but it wasn't a criticism of the girl.

Rephrase of my earlier remark for the comprehension impaired:

Considering that her own father believes his own daughter doesn’t deserve and is not entitled to basic human rights, it’s extremely fortunate that her suicide attempt wasn’t successful. The stress of having a father who clearly despises her for what she is must be a nightmare that no fourteen year old girl should have to deal with. If she was despondent enough to stab herself repeatedly, she was probably despondent enough to hang herself in a closet where no one would find her until it was too late. It’s a wonder that didn’t happen.

Just to keep things real, do we have evidence that Ted Cruise has been anything other than supportive of his daughter?  I have no information either way. 

Ted may be a run-of-the-mill hypocrite.  He may say all the right-wing-Christian stuff publicly, and not have any strong beliefs of his own on any topic.

@BrianSoddingBoru4 didn’t say she should have; he said it’s a wonder she didn’t. Those are statements with two very different meanings.

I don't know if you have children (I don't), but we both have parents. How would you feel if your parent was a lawmaker who consistently voted against measures that would make your life better and introduced measures that would make your life worse? It doesn't matter whether he believes his own rhetoric or not. What matters is how that rhetoric affects his child.

Hopefully she will get the help and support she needs. It is a shame that something pushed her this far.
