HeGetUs Movement
I find this to be even more disturbing than right-wing religious movements.

The Republican Party is basically ruled by religious people at this point. At this point, the 10,000th right-wing religious movement won't really do any harm- it's not like it would make religious people have any power over the Republican Party than they already have.

But this HeGetsUs movement, which is trying to make the Democrats be a religious party too? That I find deeply disturbing.

The last thing I want is for Democrats to start having some Jimmy Carter or William Jennings Bryan type politicians again.

I perceive the movement in two ways.

First, it's their answer to dwindling numbers of believers. Which can be construed as good to see, because they're scared for their future.

Secondly, their so-called answer has to be the most useless waste of money. Instead of using all those millions to do any actual good in society, they're buying advertisements.

Unnecessary things work. It certainly seems to be relevant to certain people for wholly ridiculous reasons.

Hasn't worked for the Churches as their numbers continue to dwindle.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I think you're worried over nothing. Simply because a religious marketing campaign (and that's what HeGetUs is) promotes views that fall in line with some liberal/lefitist/Democratic policy positions doesn't mean that it's an attempt to 'make the Democrats a religious party.'

A perusal of the HeGetsUs website seems to indicate that they're promoting things like inclusion, caring for the poor, compassion for refugees, and so on. You know - dangerous shit.

A little naive for the meat grinder of professional politics. But, all in all, an admirable fellow.

Any man who voluntarily dissociates himself from the Southern Baptist Convention can't be all bad.
