The Absurd GOP
RE: The Absurd GOP
GOP Rep. Tim Burchett: UFOs Are Real Because They’re In The Bible

“I’ve never seen a UFO, but they’re in the bible. I mean, read the first chapter of Ezekiel. It’s the King James version, it’s a translation, but it describes a wheel within a wheel. It describes what you and I would call the classic saucer shape UFO. It’s in the bible. It’s in hieroglyphics. It’s in, you know, Dark Ages paintings. It’s there.” – GOP Rep. Tim Burchett, speaking to Steve Bannon, who then claims that giants are real because they’re also in the Bible.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Republicans literally beg migrants not to leave Florida over DeSantis anti-immigration law

Florida Republicans on Monday met with migrants to urge them not to leave the state in the wake of a new anti-immigration law that is sparking boycotts of the state.

"This bill is 100% supposed to scare you," Roth told the group. "I'm a farmer, and the farmers are mad as hell. We are losing employees. They are already starting to move to Georgia and other states."

DeSantis campaign slogan: vote for me, I kick people off Medicaid so rich people can get more money.

250,000 Floridians Get Kicked Off Medicaid as DeSantis Rakes in Big Donor Cash

"One of these individuals is a seven-year-old boy in remission from Leukemia who is now unable to access follow-up—and potentially lifesaving—treatments," said local advocacy groups.

Hundreds of thousands of poor Floridians have been kicked off Medicaid in recent weeks as their Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, travels the country for his 2024 presidential bid and rakes in campaign cash from big donors.

Florida is among the states that have begun unwinding pandemic-era rules barring states from removing people from Medicaid during the public health emergency. Late last year, Congress reached a bipartisan deal to end the so-called continuous coverage requirements, opening the door to a massive purge of the lifesaving healthcare program.

But DeSantis, who has said he wants to "make America Florida," appears unmoved by the staggering number of people losing Medicaid in his state as he hits the campaign trail. The governor relied heavily on large contributors to bring in more than $8 million during the first 24 hours of his presidential bid.

It's always about the grift. One leaky pirate ship full of bilge rat pricks. The thing to understand about florida politics, is that they know that the people they're pandering to are out of state imports...and very likely to expire between cycles. You can promise a dying man anything, the most absurd shit, and you'll never be held accountable. You can rob him blind, and he'll never complain. The space he leaves will be hoovered up by the next chirping geriatric snowbird with it's mouth open ready to receive the same line of regurgitated bs.

A gun nutter will rely on the argument that banning guns just means people will still own them illegally, yet unreasonably support a war on drugs.

Not if they have any sense they won't.  The war on drugs has also been a failure for the most part.  If anything it creates a black market for drugs, and prevents users from seeking treatment options for fear they'll be arrested in the process and if they have kids that they'll be taken away by CPS.

People can ban things all they want, but users who want them will find a way to get them.  Banning them also just makes criminals out of the law abiding too.  We don't want to be criminals and would prefer not to be forced to be them by default.

Tim Burchett, the congressman who appeared on Ancient Aliens to claim the Bible is full of flying saucers, will lead the House investigation into David Grusch's claim that the U.S. is hiding crashed alien spaceships.

Quote:The House of Representatives plans to investigate claims that the US government is harboring UFOs after a whistleblower former intelligence official said the US has possession of “intact and partially intact” alien vehicles.

James Comer, the Republican chair of the House oversight committee, said the committee would hold a hearing into claims by David Grusch, who led analysis of unexplained anomalous phenomena (UAP) within a US Department of Defense agency, that the government had been collecting non-human craft for “decades”.

The timing of the hearing is not yet determined, but a source familiar with the matter said a date is expected to be announced in the next few weeks. Tim Burchett and Anna Paulina Luna, Republican members of Congress from Florida and Tennessee, respectively, will lead the oversight committee investigation.
