‘Abstract Expressionist’ is art college lingo for ‘person who can’t paint’.

I'm actually fond of modern(ish) art. My favourites are M.C. Escher and Canadian Group of Seven member Lawren Harris (known for his surreal landscapes). Went to the Art Institute of Chicago back in 2017 and was like a kid in a candy shop when I discovered originals from Mondrian and Dali.

I've grown to love modern art. Living in DC is nice because I have access to so many free art museums that rotate exhibits. I long ago abandoned the notion that art has to have certain qualities to be "good." Now, I look at art and I either have a reaction or I don't have a reaction. That's it. It's quite fun.
I was in Colombia last week for the first time and checked out the Botero museum. I always thought of his stuff as "funny fat people" and that was it. I was surprised how struck I was seeing some of his art. I didn't think I would take it all that seriously but I did.

If it tickles my eyes, I like it. I don't demand that the artist be this or that simply on my account. I either like his/her art, or don't.
I'm fairly distrustful of those who would put art in a straitjacket.

I'm willing to accept as art anything that anyone claims is art. Even art I don't like (Pollock, for example) is still art.

I get something from what I get something from. Even stuff I hate can be valuable to me if I think it challenges me, or provokes me, or gets me to think, etc. Or maybe even just valuable in terms of investment, or social interactions. I'll refer to something as Art if it suits me to call it Art.
