teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I am no fan of Musk at all. But it still remains the world needs to move away from burning fossil fuels regardless.

And we should not forget all the flawed designs in the history of combustion engines. 1973 Ford Pinto comes to mind. Not to mention Ralf Nadar had to drag the auto industry kicking and screaming into better safety standards. Even without a battery fire, pre 80s cars were very deadly. No seat belts, hard steering wheels that would bust your scull open if you hit them. Not to mention being thrown through the windshield or out of the car. I also think some pickup trucks of the 50s and 60s had gas tanks right behind the bench seating in the cab, which was a huge flaw.

New technology always has kinks to iron out. I hope Tesla goes out of business because I hate Musk, but I still want the world to scrap combustion engines eventually.

What Musk has done is to cut out the middleman: instead of damaging the environment by burning fossil fuels, he’s damaging the environment by burning electric cars. Visionary.
