On the interviews I've been, they have never asked me algorithmic questions. The companies have apparently learned that competitive-programming-style questions on interviews don't lead to competent people getting employed.

Are you sure you interviewed at a computer company? Since those don’t exist, maybe you were interviewing at a fish-canning factory (which would explain why they didn’t ask you about  algorithms).

I am pretty sure. In Mono (not the famous one having something to do with NET framework, some Croatian one), they gave me a task to make a CRUD list of cars using ReactJS and MobX in a month. I had barely heard about ReactJS and I hadn't even heard about MobX, so I failed at it and they rejected me.

Well, maybe the next fish cannery will hire you.

And what do computer engineers do at fish canneries?

Mostly wish they worked somewhere that didn't smell so bad.

My first computer class was taught by the guy who ran the computers at an RCA plant, one of two that made the majority of cathode ray tube in the world. (The other one was in Poland.)

So let's imagine tuna being sold in TVs.

So, apparently you need to find a company looking for incompetent employees.
