That's what gives me the most anxiety thinking about our future. Our (apparent) choices are violence or kings, and choosing either won't necessarily prevent the other. We've really bumblefucked ourselves on this one.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

After passing a budget that aims to cut Medicaid by $880 billion in ten years House Speaker Johnson says: "You return the dignity of work to young men who need to be out working instead of playing video games all day."
Despite Johnson's insistence that, "No one has talked about cutting one benefit in Medicaid," the work requirement would threaten health care access for millions, including Americans that are temporarily unemployed after being laid off.
A report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found that as many as 36 million of the 72 million enrolled in Medicaid could be stripped of coverage under work requirements.
Trump has been promised a quick turn around on the bill, putting the pressure on Johnson and House Republicans to make significant cuts that can be rationalized to voters who stand to lose access to services, or—in Johnson's view—video game time.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

RFK Jr pushes conspiracy theories in FDA speech, prompts staff walkouts
Last week, Robert F Kennedy, Jr (RFK Jr) gave a speech at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) wherein he invoked the ‘deep state’ and made dubious claims about autism.
“[But]… the deep state is real. And it’s not, you know, just George Soros and Bill Gates and a bunch of nefarious individuals sitting together in a room and plotting the, you know, the destruction of humanity,” RFK Jr told FDA staff.
Given the assertion about the ‘deep state’ and the ensuing accusation that FDA employees were ‘sock puppets’ to the industry they regulate, the HHS secretary advised staff to “take advantage” during his time at the helm of the department, vowing that the overarching health agency would not be "subject to undue influence and would listen to dissidents".
Stating that “this whole generation is damaged”, RFK Jr’s speech went on to claim that rising rates of chronic disease, allergies and other illnesses were attributable to “some environmental toxin”.
RFK Jr has since revealed that a mass "testing and research effort" on autism is underway at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and that “we will know” the cause of the “autism epidemic by September”.
In an anecdote about spending time at a New York school for individuals with disabilities when he was younger, RFK Jr claimed that he saw people with intellectual disabilities all the time, yet “never saw anybody with autism”.

One a much reduced level, several years ago, we had the case of the head of a security firm (bodyguard-type stuff) manage to get his firearm stolen from his unlocked vehicle.
Twice.
