Had to do a search to discover if the ticking sound was a part of the movie or an issue on my end.
Viewers found it annoying. No wonder.

Yeah, they missed the point of the Disney's cartoon in order to make a horror out of it: The hybrid of human and a mouse captures humans to burn them on his steamboat using them as fuel. No one can catch him because the boat always seems empty with only mice on the boat, but that's because that one particular mouse can transform into a giant humanoid mouse who hunts unsuspecting humans in ports.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
