Maybe it's stigmata considering that he now has it on both hands and his feet are also falling apart.

Looks like blemishes from steady prednisone use. My mom and sis both have them, very similar in appearance. I don't think a "bruise" would be that florid and still well-defined.

Not a usual locale for one, but I'm no medico. I just think it's too dark and well-defined to be a bruise. If it is a bruise, I bet those bones underneath are in shit status, too.

My mom's been in and out of hospital the last few years, with IVs out the ding-wa, and even on her regimen it just doesn't look normal.
