Cancer patient fired from job for being an atheist, now needs financial help
July 11, 2009 at 11:41 pm
I found out about this on Atheists Defense Network. In short, a woman was fired from her job because her employer found her husband's blog and found out she was an atheist. She is also a breast cancer patient and lost her insurance as a result.
You can find out more about her here: http://saveamanda.com/default.aspx
I've already made a small donation myself and featured her story on my examiner.com page

Mmmm, just a little niggle. You've of course verified this story independently of her husband's blog asking for money? How? (PLEASE don't say another blog)
I guess I'm asking for evidence. I will sometimes give one-to-one to an individual, but never on the basis of an emotional appeal on the internet. It's just too hard to prove the veracity of such stories (even the ones in my own country). On the face of it,I simply don't believe any part of the claim.

The sources seem legit to me, which I linked to in my article. And if you look on their website, the story of her being fired was featured on local news. If you don't trust it, that's fine. But that fact that someone would be discriminated against in Texas is not surprising. There are many jobs in the Bible Belt that take religious seriously like that. And if was some type of scam, seems a bad idea to go about it as an atheist. Either way, I looked into the news sources myself before deciding to make a small donation myself.

Sounds truly awful. Is it not against discrimination laws there?

She filed a lawsuit for that, but there is a law in Texas protecting small businesses of 15 employees or less that somehow protects this guy from being sued. I know from the news article she is planning to try and get that law changed.

How about she appeals directly to President Obama himself? Interesting prospect!

As soon as I saw "Texas", then I understood completely. She will be very lucky to get any type help from a single Politician on this one.
A politician helping her would be a career suicide for that person. The second a single church were to find out that a certain Rep, Senator, etc. etc. were to lend the hand in writing such a bill or adding an amendment to the one already in place, (regardless that it would have nothing to do with her being Atheist), the churches would organize in making sure that this person was voted out next go around.
Christians are usually the first to tell you how they are not hurting anyone by their beliefs....Well, here is a good example of how full of shit they are when you peel off the bullshit that surrounds them.

Samson stole my thunder.
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

LOL..Sorry Dotard....... With Texas being my Neighbor state from Louisiana, the two are pretty much alike when it comes to BS like what happened to the girl and her job etc.
Over the years I have heard of a few many being laid off of work for their beliefs (Or lack there of). In one case it was a friend of mine that has been a Buddhist for as long as I've known him. Truly sad...
Of course he did not pursue retaliation, he simply knew it would be a waste of time and money in an outcome that would be inevitable, in which he could not afford.
