RIP thread
RE: RIP thread
Regardless of how you might feel about Ditka, he was one tough son of a bitch. Yet in an interview (sorry, no link) he said he would not allow a teenage son (if he had one) to play American football today. That struck me as one of the most major indictments against the sport in its current form. When that hard-ass motherfucker says he wouldn't allow a hypothetical teen son to play football today, you really should listen.

I didn't like the guy. I think he was a fucking prick. I think he was just in the right place at the right time with the 1985 Bears and that defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan deserves more credit for that team's success than Ditka. But I respected his toughness and I think his comments about how harmful the game is to its players speaks volumes.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Michael Cremo, a Hindu creationist and an Ancient Aliens guest with extremist anti-scientific beliefs and conspiracy theories about science. He was also an author of the wildly popular idiotic book Forbidden Archeology, where he argued that modern humans existed on Earth as early as 30 to 40 million years ago, from which Charlton Heston made a "documentary."
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

It amuses me how many of these self-described ‘amateur archaeologists’ have zero education, training or credentials in archaeology.
