I'd say they can be plenty rational, they just choose to forego that rationality when it comes to the subject of god. Which I guess makes em irrational I just like to point out the situations ^_^
Mr Atheist,
How do you find time to post on an internet forum, what with all the abortions and anal sex you indulge in? Yours Truly, Fred Phelps

So were 90% of the membership here (raised religious, predominantly Catholic) who are mostly completely ignorant of what Christianity is about. Being born into a religious family DOES NOT make you religious. With poor religious observance the result usually like with yourself, has the opposite effect.
Who else saw Frodo's comment (or a variation of) coming from a mile away?
We weren't 'doing it rite'. We weren't real christians.
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

Who said the 90% was ignorant of what "Christianity" is about?? I actually stated the exact opposite. In other words, the 90% on these forums have been down that road/path at one time in their life already. Most of that 90% was raised in a religious upbringing (Notice I said, "Most" and not all)... The non-Christian path that the 90% went with had nothing to do with if they even considered themselves religious or not during that time. Just that they simply did not go with the religious surroundings that was in-front of them. And just as Kyu mentioned.....Most of the Christians I've talked to in the past would state exactly what he said... ."That we were never a Christian in the first place"... Which is a crock of shit for the ones who actually tried to believe and wanted to follow the Christian path, but just could not "Force" themselves into believing in such nonsense. Hey, I would love to be blissfully oblivious and have such a simple guide to follow, but it just doesn't work like that. My mind just doesn't work like that.....

Why do you take that personally Samson? If I'd said 100% I could understand it.
Whilst of course I have no real way of knowing.. that a hell of a lot of people join this forum repeating the same old tale of a childhood with religious influence and then an 'enlightenment' of rationalism, when to me, shown by some extreme naivety of basic Christian ideas, there was never an actual commitment for the positive, ever. Yeah... they didn't choose to adopt the religious surroundings. I covered that. Others have made adult choices rationally, and changed their minds. Yet others, like Kyu, thinks he was a Christian by some extremely spurious logic that of course even he doesn't understand. Kyu would think the devil was a Christian because the devil believes in Jesus and God I've gone from Christian to atheist myself, so I would never say that your faith was invalid. Kyu is just shit stirring as usual. |
