I mean, if that's their genetic programming, and their simply obeying their natural animal behavior patterns which came from lesser evolved primates, how can anyone say objectively that this is wrong, and not just by an opinionated standard?

The bible is an example of just this - a few people writing down what they feel shouldn't be allowed, not an objective moral standard handed down from god.

So, how do you explain the 10 commandments which are the back bone of every civilised society?

Interesting that in the poll the 1st question relates to Santa, a figure who is adored and revered every year, and also someone we actively encourage our children to believe in. What does this say about our twisted understanding of right and wrong?!!

Being able to empathise means you can have a sense of right and wrong. There is no definite objective standard of right and wrong, but most people can agree that certain things shouldn't be allowed.

The bible is an example of just this - a few people writing down what they feel shouldn't be allowed, not an objective moral standard handed down from god.

If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
Surely, there are actions most people agree on that are to be considered wrong. But let's say hypothetically if the entire world liked murder, and for some twisted reason everyone liked being murdered, then would those actions of murder be wrong?

Hypothetically, no. No-one would say that an activity that everyone loved to do or loved to have done to them is wrong.

1) Not all commandments are law in every civilised society

2) Some of them are sensible rules ( Do not murder, steal etc. ) and should be laws, because they are degrading to society. You do not need a god to see that.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Right right .... and yet you left out these verses about wisdom:
Some Half-Wit Wrote:Eccl. 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

1 Cor.1:19: "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

Quote:Technology and intelligence fail us with our dying breaths. They have value only when we are alive, but were never meant to supercede the Creator or His Word who is eternal.

Technology and intelligence fail us ---- yeah in death maybe, but I hate to be the one to break this to you Captain Obvious, but everything fails us in death ... because we're dead!!

You know what fails us in LIFE?! The stupid religions of the world - yours being in the top 2 stupid religions of all time.

You're missing my point. If a trees falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
Are we essentially evolved spacesuits stupidly assembled by no other reason than to reproduce more of the same stupidly assembled spacesuits that will eventually cease to exist? Clap

Er, wrong. The ten commandments are based upon older societies, who realized that murdering and stealing just doesn't benefit anyone. Don't flatter yourself and think that the bible was first with anything.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Where is it illegal to work on the 'sabbath?'

Where is it illegal to take the name of the lord in vain?

Where...other than barbaric islamic states ( and you don't care about them anyway ) is it illegal to worship other "gods?"

Where is it illegal to "covet" your neighbor's property?

Where...other than the aforementioned islamic states...is "adultery" illegal? Granted, you can get your ass sued off civilly but people can fuck whoever they want.

Where is it illegal to fail to honor your father and mother?

Where is it illegal to worship graven images?

Now, why is murder and theft illegal in places where your fucking "commandments" are not in force at all?

You are quite an idiot, aren't you?

Yes. Just because there is no-one to hear the sound, does not mean it doesn't occur.

Atheistic worldviews tend to believe in utilitarianism, relativism, cultural relativism, emotivism and the list goes on. Richard Dawkins has even said that evil doesn't exist.
James Holmes acted consistent with what evolution teaches. He evolved from an animal, and when he murdered those people, He acted like one. You can't say he's wrong since evolution made him that way.
