I know what heaven is like. I think somewhere deep down in the pits of his psyche, he knows this. He represses it, or if it surfaces, he has been taught to interpret it as unreasonable and diabolical, doubt! He is suffering. And I think Carl Jung summed up why:

"Neurosis is always a substitute for legitimate suffering"
