I actually think the burden of proof is on whoever WANTS to persuade. The world is run by the people who turn up
If atheists are happy to sit back and be unpersuasive non-stamp collectors thats their business. RE: Better reasons to quit Christianity

Not surprising coming as it does from an idiot who thinks truth is nothing more than what ancient goat fuckers with an axe to grind can persuade, with the crassest of low brow iron age sophistry, idiots with low discernment and high impressionability - such as him - to believe.

The world is definitely run by the people who turn up. How about this scenario: We're all sitting at a table talking about life in general. Unexpectedly, a newcomer turns up and wants to join our conversation; so he does. This newcomer starts telling the rest of the group about weird and wonderful things that the others haven't heard, so they ask him to back up his claims. Sound familiar? Replace the table with Atheistforums.org. Now then, why should I believe what you tell me is true? You're the newcomer who is here to persuade us, so show us some proof. God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I don't have any stake in it, do your own work. I mean honestly, are you hoping to completely abandon reason, because that's the road you're headed down. What you've done here btw, is assume that this issue deserves any respect or consideration beyond what it has already been given. Maybe it doesn't Spock. Just because it's important to you doesn't mean anybody else should give a flying fuck. It's like asking someone to "take a second look" thousands of times.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Someone once told me that humans were created when a space alien named Rick dropped people shaped candy when he landed on Earth. The candy reacted with compounds in the air and the candy sprang to life. The candy was called "Hadam and Weave", which translates in the alien's language to "Good and Plenty". Over time, the candy from "Hadam and Weave" became mistranslated to "Adam and Eve". So isn't it also your burden to prove this story? Don't you have a stake in figuring it out? Now do you see how stupid your comment is?

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems? (August 14, 2012 at 3:51 pm)spockrates Wrote: What are they? Reason for asking: I've been told by thoughtful atheists that looking for logical contradictions in Christian beliefs, or within the pages of the Bible is a waste of time. The explanation given is that there are much better reasons to give up on being Christian. I'm just wondering what the better reasons are so I can try them on and see how they fit. For many former christians such as myself, the hundreds of contradictions throughout the Bible are just the straw that broke the camel's back. The reason I exchanged christianity for freedom and happiness is obvious. I know I know ... "I wasn't seeking god properly," "I wasn't a true christian," "I didn't do this, I didn't do that." "I should've tried other churches." I've heard it all before a thousand times. Let me guess, "god has been an amazing presence in your life" right? You "can't believe how good life became after you accepted jesus." Well hooey for you. The rest of us have something called common sense, and believing that the Bible is your particular god's written word is ... sorry, just stupid. |
