I've got some severe ADD this early in the morning, so I'm not going to read the rest of the thread beyond page one.

My two pennies:

Serial killers are not the only people with porn stashes. Serial killers are merely a subset of people who lose their privacy and therefore their stash gets publicized. It isn't the fantasy world that makes them do the awful things they do - there are real problems within their past (abuse, etc) and also problems in their brain (lacking the pathways or blockages in the pathways that concern empathy or consequence judgment). From what I've read and seen, the problem is that some cannot become aroused without violence.

Porn deals with fantasy, which people may or may not turn into real life. The mind, however, is incredible complex, as is the sex drive, and porn can be really beneficial to spicing things up or providing an outlet for things you would never ever try. Or it provides visual stimulation when you want to wank.

Now as far as the "real life" thing: let's make a comparison. There are some people who read Harry Potter and think "Ah, that's a great book" and move on. There are some people who read it and really nerd out about it. There are some people who who become absolutely enamored with it and dress up like the characters, all the way up to the fucktards who absolutely wish they lived at Hogwarts to the point of becoming social shut ins.

It's the same with porn: here is a scenario with characters. Some people watch it, and move on. Some people watch it and get ideas and really test out whether or not those scenarios work (to great or stupid benefit). There are some people who get porn obsessed. And there are some people who get fucked over by it.

What matters is your ability to tell fantasy from reality. I can't do magic. I also can't bend in some of the ways they portray in porn. But I realize that such things are their JOB, as well. My job is not to snowboard, so I probably will fail if I see a video and go attempt it without the proper training and instruction, yeah?

What porn does do is provide a springboard for discussion with my (now) boyfriend and (back then) lovers as to things that might be interesting to do or act out.

There are plenty of people out there who want to take away porn because they feel threatened by it. In some cases, this might be true because their partners are concentrating more on the porn than them. In a lot of fat conservative housewife cases, I suspect it has more to do with jealousy that their husband is watching someone younger and skinnier than them. In typical stupid fashion, porn must end, not their fatness or unwillingness to do certain things sexually. They cloak it in "girls being taken advantage of" when a lot of women CHOOSE to do porn because it's a way to make money, and some girls really just like to fuck. Do some people get mistreated? Absolutely - but so do people in just about every commercial enterprise. It's just not as fun to hear about sweatshops as it is to hear about some girl with a hot body who was made to have sex with five guys - that's titillating news.

I have never felt shafted or threatened by a man watching porn, and I'm pretty average. You know what's funny? For a few of those lovers, we lived far enough away that sometimes instead we'd masturbate on web cam for each other, and they absolutely loved it more than porn because it's a real person interacting with them on a mental and physical level. I don't think I have to explain that this is increased 10 thousand-fold when you're actually with that person. I have insecurities, sure, but (and maybe I just pick good guys) they've always taken care to make sure I feel awesome about myself due to their treatment as much as my own psyching up. You see, they want me to feel good so that they can have a completely enjoyable sexual experience that may or may not include what they've seen on porn. The only thing that seems to be constant, porn or no, is that these men want someone who is in touch with their sexuality and enjoys what's going on. I can't tell you the number of guys who have told me (as a friend or as a lover) that many women just lay there and don't participate. The lure of porn is that women DO enjoy what's going on and what's being done to them. Once you have that in real life, it's only psychological problems that would lead you to turn to porn instead.

I don't know why people concentrate on porn though. Erotica is just as 'dangerous' but I guess because it can be hidden between book covers no one thinks about it.
