Isn't it just beautifull to look at stars and partially comprehend what they are? I'm sure any animal with eyes can see them, but we are the only ones capable of gazing at them and wonder what they are

My wife thought I was mad when I told her I wanted to drive out to the West Desert for my birthday a few years back to look at the stars. We drove out to one of the clearest darksky spots in our state when the moon was not out. It was fairly spooky to be out in the pitch black high desert alone to be truthful. Aside from some wind, nothing distorted our view, everything was amazingly visible. After seeing the Milky Way and the countless stars, my wife has now joined me in a fascination with astronomy. We will be taking a trip again this year, this time to Bryce Canyon for a weekend of stargazing.

I know I've seen Ozzy, my parents' dog, looking keenly at the night sky. Maybe he's seen a bat or something, or maybe he's just enjoying the breeze on his face as dogs are wont to do; but maybe... When they say it is "Big sky country", they aren't kidding! It was truly one of the outstanding star gazing experiences of my life. By the way, if the weather cooperates, I plan to do some more astrophotography tomorrow night. So stay tuned. If conditions are right, my menu includes the Pelican nebula early in the evening, followed by the jellyfish nebula starting at 11:00. IF conditions are right.
