In what world would something called a "delusion" do that?

Guess some people have never heard of the Salem Witch Trials.

Seems like a contradiction of terms.

Either way, the risks and dangers involved with delusions far outweigh any potential benefits.

Possibly, on that last statement. But then, given there's literally no data to support that assertion, one would be equally justified in claiming the reverse.[/quote]Much research has been done on NDE's since Raymond Moody's ground-breaking book and it all point to the conclusion that, whatever the cause of the NDE, the end result is that the experiencers have a greater sense of calm, fear death less, express their value for love more, and tend to appreciate life more. That could be true of all people that have a brush with death, but it is particularly pronounced in NDE survivors.

If this supernatural being can't produce on this front, take my original advice and seek help.

Why would he bother re-growing a limb? But if you assert that you will serve him unconditionally if he does, I will ask him to re-grow a limb in front of you sometime.

So will you serve the Christian God unconditinally if he does that?

You mean the ones put to an end by a Christian lawyer I take it.

BTW the perpetrators were doing the precise opposite of what Jesus said to do about heretics. (Nothing)

That's what people don't know here and wouldn't tell you if they did. You'd have to be a freethinker to investigate whether Jesus encouraged the killing of heretics by "Christians." But "guilt by association" is enough of an argument to satisfy the "logical minds" you find on atheist sites, with a few notable exceptions.

RE: Communicating with Him
I pray and ask God things and God will speak to me in scripture through a verse popping out. Then God will confirm the message through prophetic words that people give me such as confirming scriptures like "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you" or "you are the type of person who can take a computer apart and put it back together" when I prayed about looking for a job as I was working as a computer technician. Other times God will speak to me through names over and over again, such as Stephen, which mean specific things.

Interesting. Can you explain precisely how God spoke to you? Did his Almighty finger materialise infront of you as he pointed at a verse? Did he materialise particles in your brain that were interpreted by you as his voice?

God makes verses pop out of the Bible so they are really easy to read and then God confirms the verses that pop out. Often it is in response to prayer. Once I prayed and asked if I should change my name from Jay to Joseph. Someone who didn't know my name prophesied over me and said "your name is Joseph". Then, about a week later, another person who didn't know my name or anything about me told me that they had also recieved that name of Joseph for me. I have had that sort of thing happen to me many times.

Also, I will pray and ask God questions and see the answers in scripture.

Yep, and how does he do this? Does the ink on the page fade away except for the relevant verse? Give me specifics here.

Quote:Once I prayed and asked if I should change my name from Jay to Joseph. Someone who didn't know my name prophesied over me and said "your name is Joseph". Surprise, surprise, they're choosing a name from the Bible. The probability of something like this happening within a Christian framework is high, as you're all thinking along the same lines.

On a side note, I love how trivial this all is. Your Christian walk has you figuring out a name for yourself?? Children dying of starvation, wars and poverty are all out there destroying mankind, and you have the guts to claim the God of the universe spends his time giving you a name?

Quote:Also, I will pray and ask God questions and see the answers in scripture.

How?

I'll take hell anyday over sitting next to God in awe of his incompetence for all eternity, thanks very much.

It sounds to me like you've just hit the tip of the ice berg as far as power and influence go.

Perhaps you should pray to god and ask him not to allow any more babies to be born with deadly diseases or life threatening conditions . It makes perfect sense on all levels:

1. It's in accordance with god's will (Matthew 19:14)
2. It's a selfless request (Acts 2:44, Acts 5:2-5)
3. It rids the world of a terrible injustice (Is 5:16)
4. It's your right as one of god's faithful followers (Mat 21:22, I John 3:22)

Now, if this one comes to pass, I think you may have something.

Until then, proceed with a healthy skepticism.

Because he's a supposedly omnibenevolent being with unconditional love for us? Because doing so would be a much firmer miracle than the ones he supposedly performs today? Those reasons?

Quote: But if you assert that you will serve him unconditionally if he does, I will ask him to re-grow a limb in front of you sometime.

"What's in it for him?" Really?

Quote:So will you serve the Christian God unconditinally if he does that?

No. But it'd certainly go a long way to convincing me that he exists. Why would you ever just leap into something sight unseen just on the basis that the thing you're jumping into exists?

Quote:You mean the ones put to an end by a Christian lawyer I take it.

And started by a christian township, to be fair.

You throwing out the rest of the bible and doing only what Jesus says to do, Radorth? You one of those christians?

We atheists are also seemingly more aware of the fact that the bible doesn't begin and end with Jesus, apparently. And hell, even the new testament says that witches are evil and will go to hell... wouldn't that make killing them holy in the eyes of your lord? He's kind of got a history with regards to things like that.
