The phrase "children of God" is used quite literally.
Who has got it right? Two Christians, two opinions, stay tuned for this wonderful turn of events! Let the Truest ChristianTM win!
The two Christians are writing about two very different things.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

@ Ryan
"If your god was truly worthy of love, he wouldn't have to threaten everybody who doesn't love him. I don't have to be threatened to love my wife or my kid. It either develops naturally or is intrinsic.
The unconditional love of a person for family, especially children, demonstrates the fact that we have invented a God who is less-capable of love than we are."
If you're talking about after resurrection, then there is no threat. First, everyone is resurrected. Believers and non-believers get to get a body and live again. Believers get to live on a "New Earth" (although I'm pretty sure its the same one we're on now but "made new" and stuffz) and believers go to what Christians call hell. Believers get awesomeness, and non-believers do not. Why? Because God isn't present. Right now, God is present, so the world does not suck. However, if God were to remove himself, it would not be pleasant.
The problem with most people is they want what God offers, but not God himself. This is the no no. After resurrection, its one or the other.
However, if you're talking about the Jews in the Old Testament, there are a few threats. These, too, aren't a problem. God is Life, very literally. Basically, not only is he paying for our life support, but he IS the life support system. If we're being jerks to him, whats it to him to continue extending our lives? He never promised us immortality on this side of the board. He'll even bring them back later. Death is not good, but its not permanent either.
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Let's take your reasoning into consideration and see if you still agree with yourself. You are saying God created the evil being satan and thus God is ultimately responsible for satans actions. Am I correct to this point, of coarse I am, you and others here have stated this many times and gave kudos for such a response. Now since you hold this as a truth let's apply it to you. You have raised a son, you have given him all he needs to be a responsible citizen, yet he turns out to be a notorious murderer of many people, a vile man full of hate for others, caring not for the actions of his life. How is it by your own reasoning that you should not be picked up and charged for the crimes your son has committed, he received the death penalty for his crimes, shouldn't you have to face the same possible sentence, he is your son after all.
Ok, so lets look at this from gods perspective.
"I am going to create lucifer who, in my omniscience, I know is going to fall and become the evil that plagues my most precious creation, Man. That sounds reasonable."
See, if I was omnicient and omnipotent, I would either 1. Not have the child that I KNOW is going to be rotten or 2. Use my infinite power to make sure he doesn't become rotten.
You fairy-tale god is weak and stupid, pushes responsibility off on others and, in the end, doesn't exist anyway so none of this matters!

Many forum posters, yourself included btw John, would have made a more competent god. Not surprising, seeing as how "god" was a reflection of the fucking authors.....

I like autoimmune diseases better.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
