A challenge about women and marriage in Islam

It makes all the difference. Because then not following through on Divine legislation would mean disobedience to God, and disobedience means potential Divine punishment in the afterlife. That's the whole point. You really think Muslims don't drink alcohol or eat pork because they don't like it? No, we know how good these things can be, but we don't give a shit because we don't want to fall into sin by disobeying God. Whether something comes from God or not makes all the difference to us, that is the fundamental reason, the raison d'etre if you will, not raison d'etat haha couldn't resist. Although theologically of course it is in the national interest.

So? If someone's god has a shitty idea, and the only reason that a person goes along with it anyway is because said god has fucking terrified them into compliance (an even shittier idea) - then I'd say the case for ethical anti-theism is very firmly made.

How, praytell, would you know that? You don't mean to imply that muslims might be willing to disobey god when a pulled pork sandwich or shot of whiskey are involved (how else would they know anything about either) - would you? I mean if you're going to be disobedient - even just a little bit, enough to know about barbecued ribs....-, I'd say maiming falls before pork in priority.

It makes no difference. Might does not make right.

Like I said, I genuinely don't give a shit. Your opinions are none of my business. If I believe that something is from God, I'm going to follow it without caring what some internet mong thinks about it. It makes all the difference to me, and that's what matters.

Before I forget, let me add something here. Are you willing to tell me that your "divine law" was the best that your god could muster? Allah the almighty, allah the just, the merciful, allah the all knowing - that was his idea of justice....his best effort? The rules that would hold for all time - the rules that could administer righteousness for all men- the rules that displayed his glorious and unfathomable being?

Which one of us is really shitting on the "good name of god" here, I wonder?

-and, apparently, no matter how horrid it may be.

I'd give you a thumbs up for that statement because I feel the same way about internet mongs but I think you're one of them.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I don't know about alcohol, but all you need to do is get a whiff of bacon cooking to know it's pretty much the greatest thing since the first of Ever. Not letting you stuff your face with bacon and then not letting you drown that sorrow with some alcohol is proof that god is downright mean.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I know lots of de facto muslims that eat pork and drink beer. Ever been to Turkey? Ever drunk an Efes?

'Divine' laws are the epitome people following laws based on the culture and subjective values they and those around them hold. The more extreme the society, the poorer its people tend to be and the more dogmatic and literal religious leaders tend to become.

Wait, "no true scotsman", right?

Did I say that no Muslim drinks beer? Did I say that Muslims who eat pork or drink beer are not true Muslims? The answer to both questions is NO, you fucking idiot. Read properly next time.

Temper temper, child.

What you indicated that was that muslims "don't do x" because they would then contravene some god's divine legilsation and legislative plan, inferring that they would thus be living contrary to said god's law and thus not behaving in the way a Muslim would/should.

Now, are we able to have a nice conversation or are we going to have to sit you on the naughty step and send you to bed without dinner?

Read properly you prick. I didn't imply that no Muslim drinks or any of the bullshit you grabbed out of your arse. Didn't your mother teach you how to read or is she as illiterate as you?
