I'm sure that lightning inspires some men to ask why it occurs. And then if those men are special, they might be Nikola Tesla.

But usually, the men are worthless, and their thoughts are also worthless. Smile

Thinking

To think... here I was, but a muse as to the valueless thoughts of second-rate men, when lo: an example up and presents itself! Sleepy

Don't worry, though... I'm not giving you special treatment. You'll have to prove yourself to be possessed of class to warrant such.

I wouldn't fret about it too much, were I you... I'm certain you'll manage to impress some of the riff-raff what have arrived here from sewers the world round! That's more than some can say. Heart

Oh, looks like I'm out of bitches. I guess this earl grey will have to do. Ach well.

Holy shit, dude - I bought and had some amazing tea over the weekend. I really must send you some, depending on your preferences. Loose-leaf, of course.

I guess I'm late seeing this one, but I'll give my two cents W-erist!

In public settings through my personal experience, here are a few common mentalities I disagree with:

Religion is taboo

Atheism is evil

Philisophical discussions are boring

Some questions are too hard to asnwer and therefore not worth thinking about

If you can't prove it wrong, it must be right

Not only do I not agree with these opinions on these topics, I find myself on the opposite side of the fence on all of them, and am very passionate about them. I am continuously greatful for the opportunity to interact with such intelligent people that share a same passion for these things as well, even if, and sometimes especially when, we don't agree. My approach to these subjects has changed even in the short period of time i've been here, and I feel it has been for the better (Your approach to discussion has taught me something too Whateverist). I don't have anywhere else to talk about these things, because I don't know anyone else that cares about them. Honestly, I can't imagine a better place to do it in, or better, more qualified people to challenge my thoughts and sharpen my mind.
p.s.
Sometimes I get carried away and i'm an ass. Don't judge me on those samples. Wink

Damn, and I missed it? I'll need an url if I'm to enjoy that moment with you.

Seriously, me too. Unfortunately I'm getting more curmudgeonly in real life too. Two days ago I referred to our last principal as an asshole during a meeting, and he was much loved by about half the staff. The half he didn't hire enjoyed hearing it as much as I enjoyed saying it but I could see the look of hurt in some of his hireling's eyes, some of whom I like. All in all, not a swift move. Oh well a couple more years and I'm out of there.

Ha ha ha...what a great word. I yearn for the day to be that way with the cognitive anticipation of it being percieved as senile, and dismissed with a casual shrug of the shoulders as such.

We are on this forum for the same reason why anyone is on any internet form or why people hang out in bars or coffee shops. Because we're bored and to socialize. Everything else, including any blatantly stated mission or purpose for the forum is just so much salad dressing.

I like salads to be kept simple... add only a bit of salt and olive oil. hmmmm!

i'm here to discuss stuff.

my main interests are moral philosophy and politics (in terms of philosophy that is).

generally, i don't subscribe to a moral system, as most in my generation don't. that said, i do try to adhere to a sense of civility/humanity.

i may sound contradictory, but i note that many of us humans say things we don't mean, and say things that directly oppose prior statements. if i'm berated for that, when frankly seven other billion people do also, i should also be scolded for bipedal locomotion, complex language, abstract thought, and general sapience. oh, and wearing clothes, cooking food, and other basic human traits. picking and choosing whose contradiction is good or bad is merely one person's subjective appraisal. it's like saying "Hitler killed millions, and so did Stalin, but Stalin's is worse because merely I think so!!!!!"
