His statement implies that he had some kind of near-death experience.

If that's what happened someone should tell him that near-death experiences happen in every religion, and surprise surprise, everyone goes to the afterlife of their chosen beliefs.

C'mon guys. Death is a frightening idea. Sometimes the idea of non-existence even keeps me up at night when I think too much about it. Accepting the fact that something is inevitable doesn't make it less scary somehow. Nor does it make the idea of an afterlife anymore realistic.

You know, I used to be deathly afraid of my own death. Now having faced the very real possibility of my imminent death twice I can say that my outlook has changed.

Don't be so afraid of death that you forget to live.
