I agree with Max...if this lunacy was anywhere else but the bible, there would be no question as to it's silliness. Throw god into it, and suddenly the deluded feel the need to defend him...warts and all.

Why does god want to cut off women's hands?

Heck, atheists argue just that all the time with regard to eternal punishment. RE: Why does god want to cut off women's hands?

If this is an example of eye for an eye, as John says, then the punishment should be simply to grab hold of the woman's genitalia or breasts or something of that nature in return. That, however, is not the case in this passage.
The question remains: why is this particular law no longer practiced? Why is slavery suddenly wrong? Why are there gay ministers? Dudes. It's because it's all bullshit, and Christians don't even realize that they realize this! Placing someone in jail for life is punishment. Placing someone in a fiery pit to be attacked by demons is torture. Theists always seem to make the erroneous mistake of comparing god's punishment with that of a parent punishing his child. The major difference is that I do not see parents throwing their children into fiery pits when they misbehave.

Heck, atheists argue just that all the time with regard to eternal punishment. The passage quoted goes beyond commensuration, so this I call lunacy. Actually, 'cruel and unusual' is a more appropriate label. Just because you believe your god to be just and fair doesn't make it so. RE: Why does god want to cut off women's hands?
