Ask/Seek/Knock. It's from Luke 11, where Jesus teaches his disciples the Lord's Prayer.
Luke 11:9,10 Wrote:9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Now, if you grew up worshiping god and finally realized that he wasn't real, and you point out that you lived by the words of Luke 11, your typical apologist will come to the conclusion that you must not have done it right. But the context of the verses above indicate that there's no trick to it. Ask and god will provide. Persist if you have to, but god is a loving father and will give to those who ask. You won't find any horseshit about how you have to ask a certain way, or you have to seek a certain way, or you have to knock a certain way, or any other flaming hoops and hedge mazes that you must traverse for god to answer your prayers.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

OK so basically when I was wavering in my faith and I did this and nothing happened, then did God want me to become an atheist?

Since Drich seems to believe in a literal global flood, I don't know whether to laugh at him or feel sorry for him.

This is my unproven theory as to why Drich is so stubborn.

We have to look at things from Drich's perspective. I don't know his life story, but it seems that somehow he survived AIDS. I don't know if he is permanently or only temporarily cured. To him, it was a miracle, so he gained faith in God, feeling that he must express his thanks to Him.

Now, to Drich, not accepting the word of God word for word would be going back on his debt to God. But, he likes science, too. He tried to show how science can be applied to the Bible so that he could stay faithful, and perhaps help us, too.

it has been shown with little doubt that Drich's ideas are wrong. However, he is like a scared cat, backed into a corner. He is fighting drastically to stay faithful. I don't know if we can ever de-convert him, because he will believe anything to stay faithful, even if he must accept the impossible.

And that's how I see things. I may be completely wrong, but I don't pity him, I hope the best for him.

Just to be clear, we all see the absurdity of the idea that the interior of the planet somehow contained enough water to not only cover its exterior, but to do it to the height of the tallest mountain, right?

Little hint, Drich: the core of the earth is not a TARDIS. It is most definitely not bigger on the inside.

That is not what I find absurd. The real absurdity lies in the notion that there would be some way for that water to be forced to the surface without leaving geological evidence, and that it could then somehow disappear, apparently into thin air.

Yes, I've seen all the usual suspects ad hoc explanations, and they don't hold water (yuk yuk).
