Cheap? There's a price to not believe? I don't care how intelligent a person is or how much she spent on books and resources; if the person stops believing, he's atheist just the same. Fuck the price. It's not even relevant.

Geez. The intellectual atheists of 'auld' are representives of a time when only they could find immortality in print. Scour the planet at that time and realize that atheists of all flavors and persuasions existed.
Just like today. Except, of course, the interwebz allows all voices to merge as a cacophonous white noise. Choose to be selective, however, and the same noise reveals individual frequencies speaking of similar arguments, with even greater levels of sophistication. So in response I would ask if you (and Hart) hold atheism to a higher standard because you also hold it in higher esteem, or is it because you wish to set unreachable limits in an attempt to discredit it? If you are going to hold every atheist up to the intellectual fortitude of Mackie, Ayer, Flew, and Russell can I then hold every Christian up to the faith of Luther, Calvin, and Knox?
