A cat giving birth to a dog without artificial intervention would disprove evolution. It would prove that a new species can arise from another family without thousands of generations in which variation and natural selection can interact.

In the theory of evolution, every organism is the same species as the generation that produced it. Trying to spot evolution in action in a single generation is like trying to track the development of a child by taking a snapshot of it, and then taking another picture five minutes later. Thinking that shows children don't grow and develop is the caliber of mistake made when concluding evolution doesn't happen if it isn't visible in a few generations.
