Oprah speaks for atheists?

RE: Oprah speaks for atheists?
Well, no one ever claimed Oprah was smart, and money clearly can't by brains. She is, after all, responsible for unleashing Dr. Phil upon society. You have to be pretty fucking stupid to be so reckless.

I do always get a chuckle when believers start spouting out the mouth about what an atheist can and can't be, as if believing in god somehow makes them an expert.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

You have a point there. Phil is a fraud.

That sounds like the argument from design. The universe seems so awesome and cool that it must have been made by god. I'll bet she'd be awed by the bright colors and patterns of Phyllobates bicolor if she saw one. She might be somewhat less awestruck if she touched it, though. God sure can be a sneaky bastard.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

The popularity of that phoney-ass bitch, and for that matter that Golem she unleashed upon the unsuspecting public (Dr. Phil) just goes to show us the sheer
fucking stupidity of the American public. It's kinda scary that these legions of mindless groundlings just swallow her utterances as if they were 24K nuggets of timeless wisdom. But why am I surprised? These same fools think Ronald Reagan was "the great communicator".
“To terrify children with the image of hell, to consider women an inferior creation—is that good for the world?”

I don't like Oprah, for someone that influential, she sure doesn't give a shit about responsibility. The fact that she endorses Dr Oz makes her a terrible person in my eyes.

I don't think she is a phoney. I think she sells crap to make a living. But I don't think she is a phoney in the sense that she has a better moral compass for the less fortunate as compared to the Koch bastards.

She doesn't support gay marriage because it gets her ratings. She didn't support Obama to get ratings. I think she has a much better understanding of where she came from in escaping poverty and the plight of minorities as compared to Papa Johns.

Having an atheist on does get ratings, but I don't think it is beyond her to think "people used to do the same thing to blacks".

This opening paragraph of the article in question I think completely undersells the accomplishment of Diana Nyad. She didn't just swim from Cuba to Florida. She did so, unaided, at the age of 64. Now that is truly remarkable.

I'm sure that at some level Oprah thinks she couldn't have made it without a little help from her sky-daddy. I guess the first four times he tried to drown her and then decided oh, what-the-fuck!

Oprah tells atheist swimmer Diana Nyad that atheists don't believe in 'awe' and 'wond
You can find the article online. She says “Well, I don’t call you an atheist then,” Winfrey replied. “I think if you believe in the awe and the wonder and the mystery that that is what God is. That is what God is. It’s not a bearded guy in the sky.”
anyone care to respond?
