Oath Change for the AFA

Oath Change for the AFA
So the Air Force Academy has taken a step in the right direction for religious equality and have made the "so help me God" portion of their cadet oath optional.

Is this enough or should the oath be secular in nature to begin with?

Discuss.

Oh, definitely it should be secular.

Welp, I discussed.

It should be secular, but I think this is a reasonable compromise. Baby steps seem to be all that's possible right now.

I agree, baby steps are likely to be the only progress we see in such matters. For the time being anyhow.

I also thought it was interesting that in the video under the Mediaite article, Dave Muscato (public relations director for American Atheists) was the only person on the panel that did not interrupt or get heated about the discussion.

I don't give this issue that much weight since it's such a small symptom of a bigger problem, but they're doing the right thing.

Was implemented for army and government institutions here during the early 2000s when newly electe chancelor Schröder refused to swear an oath to god.

LOL, well, it's just so unfair if you don't force everyone to say it!

RE: Oath Change for the AFA
The meaningless wording "so help me God" should be entirely eliminated. If any of those cadets need any "help" in resolving to do their duty, they sure as shit won't get it from any god.
