Can someone be hindu and a Atheist?
I read a explanation for a user here on Hinduism that said it's basically like if anceint greece took their whole culture and packaged it into something called greekism. Now india has a very rich history that developed some explicitly atheist philisophies that some consider to be part of hinduism hence the question.
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
To the last syllable of recorded time;
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,

Every insecure culture tries to puff itself up by claiming it is the ultimate source of wisdom and progress and others merely stole from it. A confident culture doesn't harp on how long it's history has been or how much others alledgedly stole form it in the past. Sufficient for it is how well it is doing now. Only a culture that can't compete in present performance that tries to impress by tales of how it did back in the days of myth.

No I'm not actually, apo was the one that explained that bit of hinduism to me, but in all honesty it was just something I'm wondering about

It seems to me anyone can imagine him/herself to be an atheist as well as a member of any religion. The question would the majority of other people of that same religion consider that person to be a member of that religion.

Well, I think you can be culturally Hindu and an atheist. Just like you can be culturally Jewish or Catholic and be an atheist. Religions come with traditions and holidays which may be celebrated even if one does not subscribe to the religion itself.

Wait your not a mod now? Now what was explained to me is that Hinduism isn't so much a religion like Christianity so much as its a whole culture reactively packaged as a religion in response to Islam. That left me wondering
