Illinois to become 15th state to recognize marriage equality

This is a sad result of the fact that Christians, which still unfortunately dominate the American population, can't be reliably trusted to observe basic American tenets of equality and have a disturbing tendency to vote it out of existence when allowed to. This ought not to surprise anyone.

I'd say it's part of a much bigger issue... which is that people are denied from seeing their loved ones and friends on any basis other than 'they could very demonstrably harm or otherwise complicate the patient's condition'.

All other issues are smoke and mirrors that accomplish only to distract from the primary issues. Marriage should be utterly irrelevant in the matter of hospital visitation rights. Smile

Sure, it's certainly a case for inequality... but where others would take this to be time to defend rights currently possessed: I see opportunity in this to argue for rights that *should be* possessed Big Grin All of these issues are bigger than one group of people being allowed ____ and another not.

Kay. Your attacks are pretty juvenile and militantly hypocritical. I'm not here to join in all these petty little side arguments, especially one with a child. Talk about a prime example of the pot calling the kettle black, sheesh. lol

Considering I've yet to attack anyone? Angel I do my best to recognize my more base natures, and I happen to accept them, and to base my world (in part) upon them. Should you ever find I say something that is *in any way* hypocritical: I would rather appreciate your highlighting of such, as it would be cancerous upon me.

I believe you'll find that respecting common courtesy hardly detracts from any argument. If not today, then: tomorrow.

Probably not the best idea to misuse phrasing, but I'm not your prefrontal cortex, so what's that worth? Mouse

You're right, I shouldn't have assumed you were Christian. It was an honest assumption as I have only come across Christian opposition to this issue. You have taught me a lesson.

Even were I a christian: would it make my opposition any less valid an opposition?

There are many reasons anyone might be for, or against, or utterly neutral to any given course of action... and these reasons are not necessarily identical across the whole of a group.

No, but it certainly helps.

No. It has the potential to either help or hinder any given marriage, but it most certainly does not necessarily help Smile

Like I said, Lyin. They are telling you and your god to go fuck yourselves.

Who is "they"?
Activist judges and lawyers.
I can't imagine why lawyers would want family law to get a whole lot more complicated. Opening up a new wave of States rights issues, First Amendment rights litigation, anti-discrimination lawsuits, reproductive rights precedents....

Hey, lawyers/politicians gotta eat too. $$$

Funny how judges are 'activist' when they enforce equality which should have always been recognized from the start, but not when they decide to exploit loopholes to close abortion clinics.

Nobody's prohibiting you from being able to hate everybody who isn't just like you.

You clowns have been getting away with murder for centuries and now you are finally getting your just reward. You superstitions are losing their hold on humanity. There is no getting that power back!

BWAHAHAHA!

If we were to define "just" the way that their god does, a "just" reward would be death for daring to oppose whatever we arbitrarily decide is right and proper.

Well in all fairness, I did lash out first, albeit not at you. And I'm not ashamed of that. Secondly, you did attack me and my intelligence, so don't play like you're innocent, lol. But what's a little sticks and stones in a controversial argument?

No, being a Christian wouldn't make any opinion any less or more valid than any other group of people but it's a notorious fact that Christians predominantly are against marriage equality
