Hello everyone.

I don't know why anyone else wound up being an atheist. For me it was an ultimatum I was faced with at 14. I was either going to accept myself for who I was, or sink into the dark recess of fundamentalism. I luckily, chose to accept myself for who I was.

For the first few years I was a pretty weak atheist though. I remember we even had a teach who would spend half of his class lectures talking about the 'Biblical end times'. It was a really weird science class. These days, I would have been opposed to his violation of the separation of Church and State, however, back then I really didn't have much of a backbone, so I let him talk away.

Over time I came into contact with a few people: Both online and around my small town ( which was surprising ) who shared my lack of belief. Along the way I became exposed to Richard Dawkins, who is easily one of my idols these days. His views on a lot of things really mirror how I feel about the world. I especially love his desire to be civil, but willingness to say anything if need be despite who's feel goods it might hurt.

I'm really curious though, how did everyone else find their way to atheism?

I didn't "choose" atheism I just never believed in god and have never seen any reason to start.

Consider yourself lucky.

Iam an atheist because of lack of evidence for god and because people 2000 years ago were very superstious and therefore unreliable witnesses

I see. That's good enough reason for anyone to be a non-believer. After 14, i always just found bible stories to be a little ridiculous. It was a bummer having to go to church all the time as an atheist though, I was always sooo bored -.-'

How do you 'chose' what to believe. I stopped believing in God aged about 10 I cannot chose to believe in him.

I'm an atheist, rather than an I-don't-give-a-shit... ist, because terrible apologetics piss me off. The reason I identify the way I do now is because there are plenty of religious folk out there who seem willing to just drive away anyone who values honest debate.

My atheism is an extension of my skepticism.

For me, atheism is nothing more than the application of rational and critical thinking applied to the claim that a god or gods exist.

I didn't choose to be an atheist, my critical thinking skills have just lead me to that position.

A Christian told me I was an atheist because I don't believe the bible is whole truth.

I don't know what god is the real one or what religion is correct, so I chose none. I observe life and have come to the conclusion that god is just that of an over reactive imagination. When I was little I thought I could talk to god until I got out of that imaginary friend stage. Also perching reminds me of cults.
