This goes a bit beyond internal use, "only where necessary." That you continue to attempt to justify yourself is probably the worse crime. As I said, we all make mistakes, and if your investigating it privately was not an abuse — which I will accept may have been the case, as similar researches are indeed a legitimate part of administrating a forum — then that's all well and good. The major error, in my view, was using information gained through administration privilege to try and get one up on Jacob, for reasons that, again, imho, appear to have been nothing more than an attempt to gratify your own ego and followup your earlier complaints about him. That, I believe, is not a mistake that can be justified by any appeal to the rules. But as said, we all make mistakes, the real test is how we deal with our mistakes, whether we take responsibility for our actions and amend our wrongs, or simply try to sweep them under the rug with ad hoc justifications. To my view, and apparently that of others, you are doing the latter. I see your response in this as completely lacking in any humility and virtue, or even remorse. That, to my view, is the mistake that's hard to excuse on the basis of you "being human" and fallible like the rest of us. That seems to me to reveal a character flaw.
(ETA: And before someone else points it out, let me point out that I was probably doing something remarkably similar in trying to justify in shoutbox, PM, and threads, my abusive treatment of other staff members in the staff / moderator threads. I'm not claiming any halo for myself, either. I have some amends that never got done in my case.)
(ETA2: Seeing myself reflected in Rayaan's mirror, I feel somewhat more charitable towards him, but things still need to be set to rights.)

That is your own view, but that is not the view of the staff team and I'm pretty confident that they know my reasons for doing this better than you do.
Nonetheless, I will think about stepping down from my admin duties ...

and we're working on it. Please be patient with us just a
bit longer. All of your remarks are being considered and

I shouldn't have to tell you this, but I think I need to say it anyway. You should step down from the staff and if you do so willing it would save face on your part. My suggestion is own up to mistake and step down, because if stay on the staff I have a feeling myself and a lot of other people will leave this forum. Lets face the truth here, You fucked up good and now we need assurance that this fuck up won't happen again. In fact what bothers me is that we have no way of knowing who you have done this too, and the only reason we know about Jacob is because you flew it in his face. In others words, all we have is your half assed apology to guarantee us that you do this again, while you could do a profile on half the forum until a mod or another staff member somehow caught you again.

I wonder if the mods will act like most other forum mods would do, ie whitewash the process and take no further action? Frankly Rayaan's comments of late have shown that he still thinks that it is an over reaction, that he though it was amusing that 'so little' could upset someone and now this

Shows that the message has not really sunk in, reinforces perceptions of mods 'protecting their own' and creates a very unpleasant 'them and us' situation.
Frankly a simple resignation would save face all round followed by an open statement of rules of mod behavior.

You know, Rayaan, rightly or wrongly, when you're in a position of leadership, appearances matter. And right now, you don't appear too good.
