The problem with youth in America is that parents have failed to provide adequate discipline. It has less to do with religion and more to do with race at this point. I have noticed in America, it's the white parents (many of whom are Christian) who have gotten soft on punishment.

Frankly I wouldn't have thought a discussion about child rearing habits would fall so neatly along theist/atheist lines. In and of itself, a little swat before children are able to talk might not be so horrific. But I think the fanatical emphasis on corporal punishment as an unqualified positive is what sets the religiously retarded apart. I have to feel sorry for Christians who show such contempt for their own and their children's humanity that they feel it is necessary to beat them into submission.

For myself, I don't find it advantageous to beat a dog to train it, how in the world could it possibly be so for a human? There are times when you need to show yourself to be the boss in relation to a dog, but beating plays no part in that. Completely unnecessary and it destroys trust.

What disgusts me most is the unthinking manner in which Christian's such as sinners and drich embrace force and cruelty because they read it as god's will. It is god's will to break their children's will even as their own was broken by their poor, primitive parents before them. I couldn't stand to be fundamentalist Christian for a day much less an eternity. So very pathetic.

What is it with you & race? Race is a social construct with no real value. Racism is the belief that humanity can be divided up into separate races.

Also, for someone who claims to be progressive you have very old-fashioned ideas about children.

I have worked with kid from every walk of life, and while I never had to physically correct a verbally discipline (undisciplined) kid, and I have had to fight for my life against a few who were disciplined but thought they could take me out.. I'd have to say hands down of the two the undisciplined kids are far more exhausting, and I would rather not have anything to do with them. Most of them are manipulative parasites who learn to seek loop holes in order to get what they want, and to prey on the weak. Kids like that are in for a traumatic transition into the real world...(if they can make the transition That is unless they find a sugar daddy of some sort. ) the consistently and thoughtfully disciplined kids are far better suited to fit whatever role society throws at them, and will adapt better.

Again don't take my word for it look at how the world's current super power handles their kids.
