How do you get from "beginning of the universe" to christianity?

RE: How do you get from "beginning of the universe" to christianity?
Please don't necropost, and all that, but I can't just let prime arguing material go either. Tongue

That's a pretty big if.

Quote:The writers of the new testament faced persecution, even to death, from lthe established Jewish leadership, from their own families and later from the Roman government. I just don't see any reason for them to lie.

So now you're living in a world where your god is real, all the others are fake, and yet all the martyrs for every other religion all died for gods that didn't exist. Why should the fact that the new testament authors did the same be evidence for your god, if those other martyrs aren't evidence of theirs?

Quote: As for all those other arguments, if God is who I believe he is, he can create the universe any way he wants to, however that was. I didn't start from the beginning, but from the fufillment of all that was written about beforehand.

All this magical thinking and handwaving serves to do is put your beliefs in a place where they can't be touched by logic: "god can do anything, and therefore any problems aren't." It's just laziness, and now I have to ask: given the above, is there anything that could falsify your religion, to you?

Every time I make a post I know I can count on you to come after me. On top of that you keep calling me lazy. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield cause I don't get no respect. I was just making an honest answer. I've done some study of other religions, but I just don't accept them. I believe the witnesses. I believe there's a realm that science can't explain and I believe Chistianity best explains it. Explain documented miracles by science.

Actually, I'll be fair, I'm not calling you lazy, just your thinking. It's not even really your fault; our patchwork, evolved monkey brains are set up for that kind of thinking via various psychological effects, but it's something that we need to surmount, not indulge.

Quote: I was just making an honest answer. I've done some study of other religions, but I just don't accept them. I believe the witnesses. I believe there's a realm that science can't explain and I believe Chistianity best explains it.

There's a lot here to deal with. First, you say you believe there's a realm science can't explain: how did you decide that? Without knowing the future, you can't possibly be justified in holding that opinion.

Another thing is your belief that christianity best explains these things we don't know yet; I first need to point out that "having an explanation," is not the same thing as "having the correct explanation," even if you happen to find it the most compelling. Additionally, of course christianity has the simplest explanation; it can just make recourse to god magic to explain everything, by explaining nothing. To be clear, there's no mechanism implicit in that: christianity explains what, but not how, which is what a real explanation would do.

Quote: Explain documented miracles by science.

I would say that there aren't any, least of all ones with sufficient evidence to claim a miraculous source, because even if science can't explain the events there, what you're left with is a mystery; you have no justification for claiming them to be miraculous based solely on the lack of an explanation from science. That's an argument from ignorance.

Incidentally, I don't think I've ever heard of any miracles documented by science, could you provide some links?

What I meant was can science explain miracles that have been documented. I'll see if I can find some for you.

http://christiancadre.blogspot.co.uk/200...acles.html or google "documented miracles".

Well, for some reason this web site is not coming out right when I post it, but I got it and others from google under "documented miracles."
