RE: How can a Christian reject part of the Bible and still call themselves a Christian?

Atheism doesn't need a defence. You do that for us.
And we see your persecution complex is coming up too, how nice! But I would like you to know I think all religions are equally full of bullshit, not just yours.

People can be convinced to believe just about anything. Even in the present day. It's not all that hard to believe.

So the argument goes that there is no (reason to believe in) God because in your own opinion there isn't and your own opinion is automatically true so there is no reason back it up with anything?

So any opinion you happen to have automatically becomes an objective truth you can simply just state as fact and everyone has to agree with it for no reason? Okay then.
Come all ye faithful joyful and triumphant.

The idea that supernatural beings don't exist should be the default until proven otherwise. Yahweh doesn't exist unless proven. Unicorns, fairies, vampires, and other beings don't exist unless proven. That is why etheism doesn't need a defense.
I don't have to disprove Vishnu, Zeus, Osiris, Odin, Zoroaster, and all the other gods too, do I?

Sounds stupid, that's exactly what you just did to me. If you want to argue that everything is about opinions, i'm out. It's not worth it. And BTW nice strawman.
I lack a belief in your god because you have not met your burden of proof. Simple

And again, another complete strawman from a stroppy little child who doesn't like his beliefs being called into question.

How can you spout such absurd blather with a straight face?
I work under my boss and obey his directives, but as a person I'm equal to him. His role at work is to be my boss. For marriage God set it up for the husband to be the head of the family. He never declared the woman to be unequal to the man. What's absurd about that?

She believes that it is perfectly acceptable to be a homosexual because you should be able to love anyone you want.
I asked her how she could say that and call herself a Christian. She became iritated. I pointed out that her Bible clearly states that it is an abomination. She finally said " I don't care what it says" and ended the conversation. The stress caused by the cognitive dissonance was pretty high.
I find Christians do this a lot. They reject what they don't like in the Bible.
To believe in God doesn't mean you will automatically understand everything. The girl clearly doesn't know that homosexuality isn't condemned in the bible and so couldn't tell you that. Her basic answer was correct and in line with her belief. If she had agreed with you then there would indeed be dissonance.

Isn't that what we all think?
I don't claim that God exists. I believe that he does.
You don't claim that any deity doesn't exist. If you did then the burden of proof would be yours, just as it would be the burden of anyone claiming the opposite.
