The world does tend to get better over time, though it's slower in some places than others. That's why it's a bit weird when religious people call earth hell. Hell is supposed to be the worst place imaginable, and for some people this life is hell, but I think for most it does get better and better the more we really strive for equality.

People twenty years from now are going to look at generations preceding mine as if they were from 2,000 years ago. Mostly because, in some crucial ways, they may as well have been.

That's not just regarding marriage equality; fixing everything the Baby Boomers fucked up over the last thirty years is going to take a long, long time.

Of course I didn't mean to imply that it would take thousands of years. You don't have to go back very far. For some regions, you don't even have to go into the past. Just look at how some third world countries are.

I think people 2,000 from now are going to wonder why we bothered with these fragile sacks of flesh and water, honestly.

In 2000 years, everyone's minds will be hooked up to a virtual reality machine, able to control their surroundings with a thought. That's how you get world peace. That's how you give everyone everything they want, so they don't have to steal or kill to do it. Then some asshole hacks the machine because there can be only one virtual god.

It is inevitable. One by one countries are changing laws its just a matter of time now. Its completely ridiculous to me that its taken this long even but still, at least its happening even if it is a bit slow.

I heard on talk radio that there's a lawsuit being brought against Oregon's marriage equality ban and that the state Attorny General is not going to defend the ban (YAY!!!!), but that it might not even matter because so many Oregonians are now in favor of marriage equality that we're likely to pass the equality measure that is coming up on our ballots this fall before the case can be decided, maybe even argued for. Big Grin

Marriage Equality will happen in my lifetime. Smile

Loving this. If Texas is going to be forced to recognize gay marriage soon, then we do not have long to wait for such to be the case for the whole country. Oh I so look forward to the outrage Wink

This is but one example of the many reasons that listening to Christian radio stations has been so much fun lately. I'm convinced that I will hear Tony Perkins go into convulsions on the air moments before his head explodes.

If the 5th Circuit upholds the judge (the most right-wing of the Circuit Courts) the battle is pretty much over. If they reverse it will end up in the SC.

But the state is asserting the right to "regulate" marriage (odd for a bunch of republicunt shitheads who don't want to regulate anything else!) while the courts are applying the standard set out by Garcia:

Quote:he said in his order. “Without a rational relation to a legitimate governmental purpose, state-imposed inequality can find no refuge in our U.S. Constitution.”

These are apples and oranges arguments.
