You left out the obligatory recitation of Psalm 23. Although not original, these are to be expected at a Christian funeral. I deplore when the service transitions into an advertisement for Jesus with the implication of the living going to hell if they don't get straight with Christ.

I honestly don't care what happens to me when I die; I'll be dead. If people gather to remember me I should hope they jettison the typical somberness in favor of a more festive event.

My dads auntie was an atheist and coincidentally a founder member of the Uks communist party.

There is an atheist "chapel" in portsmouth were secular funeral services are held (Who knew).
The reading at her funeral was from the musical Don qixote "dream the impossible dream fight the unbeatable foe" etc.

I've never been to a funeral that did, but that's because I come from a Jewish family, so all our funerals have had prayers in Hebrew that nobody can understand. And Psalm 23.

With my sister and I being atheists, we're likely to surprise the rest of the family when we leave that stuff out. Of course, that would assume that we plan ahead for our funerals, which I haven't done yet (don't think she has, either).

I have yet to experience this special brand of bullshit. That takes some nerve.

I have been to funerals where the pastor waxes poetic about the recent conversion prior to death, which everyone in attendance understood to be a lie.

I'll see to it that there is going to be some death metal, no pun intended.
