I believe that ordinary people cannot be trusted with guns. Only the government should be allowed to have guns.
Because everyone in the government is a model of probity, care, and honesty.
Right. Got it.

I'd like to hear the objections to having guns registered and owners licenced.

Fair enough, then I'll have to assume that the objections would be from people that suspect they wouldn't be allowed to own a nerf gun under even the laxest of gun regulations.
Please separate the two entirely different points - licensing of gun owners and registration of guns.
Please discuss what problems each of those purports to solve, what side effects there may be, what positive and what negative consequences could occur.

Quote:NRA's quest to expand gun rights takes it to court
The National Rifle Association is involved in hundreds of legal cases across the country, many in California.
An NRA spokesman says the organization has involved itself in a large number of cases since a seminal U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 2008 that upstanding Americans have the fundamental right to keep guns in their homes.
Since then, the NRA has initiated its own lawsuits and joined other legal challenges seeking to blunt gun-control laws and expand the reach of the Second Amendment. It also helps people embroiled in legal trouble because they own guns.
