Lek Wrote:The suffering God inflicted on us he also inflicted on his son. That's not very loving. Especially since he could've avoided it by simply doing something that people have learned to do and do all the time without spilling a drop of blood... forgive.
Lek Wrote:If Job is with God now in eternal bliss, do you think that he cares about how much he suffered during his time on earth? If Job was in heaven with god, he'd probably spend eternity hoping that god doesn't notice him ever again. Because the previous time he noticed him, Job was put through a wringer of emotional, mental, and physical torment and all because god decided to allow a request by Satan to turn his world upside-down.
And Job, a "blameless and upright man, who fear[ed] god and shunn[ed] evil" (god's description of Job, BTW) understandably figured that he'd get an explanation from god, seeing as god was kind and loving and just. Instead, he got bitch-slapped by an indignant deity who sarcastically wondered aloud who was this little insignificant man to dare to expect an explanation from god. Apparently god forgot the glowing recommendation that he'd given Job previously, because god sure does hate it when his servants get uppity after they've been put through hell without warning.
Christians often remind us that man is a fallen creature, absolutely incapable of redemption on our own and dependent on god's undeserved mercy. Job was reminded of this in pretty rough terms, to put it mildly. If he is in heaven with god, I wonder how many millennia it will take for him to finally stop looking over his shoulder in a cold sweat. He might even be thinking that if hell is a condition of man when he is without god, it might not be such a bad place to find himself.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Wrong. I'm not afraid of going to hell because I have Jesus, but I could just dismiss it all like you do, then I wouldn't worry about going to hell either like you. Secondly, I read what Jesus taught and I see how the world works when it's full of people who ignore those teachings. I'm also agreeing that christians are notorious for disregarding Jesus, so we don't need to do the blame game here. I'm also inspired by the early christians who were able to flourish despite intense persecution because they had faith in God. It gives me a lot of confidence.

All killing in general, or do you have some specific killing instance in mind?
(April 7, 2014 at 5:56 pm)Lek Wrote: You guys don't get it. We do suffer here. If you look around it's mostly all caused by human beings inflicting it on each other. God has done things that made people experience pain, as they were living in this world of suffering. If Job is with God now in eternal bliss, do you think that he cares about how much he suffered during his time on earth? The suffering God inflicted on us he also inflicted on his son. The people he killed were killed quickly, but his son died a slow and agonizing death for us so that we wouldn't have to suffer after our lives here. That's how he showed his love for us. He gave us the choice to be with him or not and, for those who want to be with him he gave a pathway. For those who don't want to be with him, he allows a future without him. He allows us to make our own choices and doesn't force us to follow him. We don't know what hell is except that it is without God's influence and that it's not a great place. The reason that hell is a terrible place is the absence of God. How can you say that God is not loving?

So your question is "if killing in general were morally right, would we be angry about it?". It's a rather odd question. Before I can answer it, I need to know why killing is morally right.

But you are going to hell. According to billions of people, you are going to hell. There is no way around that -- no matter who you are, what you do, what you believe or worship -- there will be some people who are absolutely certain that you are going to hell.
And you are not a true xtian. No matter what there will be other xtians who are absolutely certain that you have it all wrong, you are not a true xtian, and you are going to hell.
All the different religious views have exactly the same amount of evidence to support their beliefs -- none.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste -- don't pollute it with bullshit.
